Spotlight on partnerships – Royal Philharmonic Society

ABRSM

The Royal Philharmonic Society has been at the heart of classical music in the UK for 200 years, creating opportunities for musicians to excel and championing the vital role that music plays in all our lives. Through grants, commissions, performance opportunities and awards, they help young performers and composers find their voice and celebrate the quality, impact and ingenuity of the finest artists and creative forces at work today.

We’ve been working with the RPS for a number of years sponsoring their programmes for composers and women conductors, as well as their Impact Award at the annual RPS Awards.

Through courses, advocacy and dialogue, the Women Conductors Programme creates opportunities that give women the means and confidence to conduct. So far, the programme has helped over 500 women to further their conducting skills at different levels, with their latest course, in partnership with Sage Gateshead, supporting women who are looking to make conducting their primary vocation.

Designed to transform the prospects of UK-based composers, the RPS Composers programme helps participants build skills and confidence and establish their careers. Each year the programme works with around seven composers, providing professional development opportunities and commissions with a premier performance at a leading festival or venue.

Find out how conductor Charlotte Corduroy and composers Andrew Chen and Lucy Armstrong have benefited from their involvement with the RPS and ABRSM in this short video.
